Four Guys You Might Not Know WWE Still Has

I often go to wwe.com when I get some free time and have a look around to see what they have on their site. Recently, I found myself on the roster page of the website and noticed that I was repeatedly saying “Really?” a lot, as I was surprised that certain people are still on the roster. Here are a list of guys, in no particular order, that I was very surprised still were employed and what I might do to get them back on television in a more prominent position:

1. David Hart Smith

I last saw DH Smith as a lumberjack in April as part of a lumberjack match, but I barely recognized him as he had a cowboy hat and silver vest on. I immediately thought that this must be a rib on the old “Cowboy” Bret Hart gimmick that was proposed to the Hitman in 1985ish and that Bret had the sense to decline. It was in December that Tyson Kidd turned heel, beat Smith and ended that tag team. The fact that I haven’t even heard of Smith being used on Superstars worries me for his long term future because I really think WWE is missing the boat on Smith’s talent. I will also note that his WWE profile still calls him and ECW star. I put Smith as the muscle for someone, possibly the new protege of the Miz and allow his “wrestling” to be showcased rather than his promo ability which, admittedly, is sub par. That being said, Harry Smith has come along way since I first saw him team with his Dad, Davey Boy Smith, at the Firepark Hall in Northeast Calgary.

2. JTG

The former one half of Cryme Tyme has been as been on the latest season of NXT so he’s not exactly in the same boat as DH Smith, but c’mon, who’s watching NXT? Like, Smith his wwe.com profile is badly out of date and was written shortly after the break up of Cryme Tyme in April of 2010. JTG is someone that I always thought had a great ability on the mic and is a decent wrestler despite his small-for-WWE size. I might try to have JTG vs Sin Cara matches just to see how those two work together and/or, when Nexus finally is mercifully put out to pasture, I would try teaming JTG up with David Otunga. Another person who’s character might fit in a tag team with JTG would be Percy Watson when WWE decides to bring him up to the main roster.

3. Tyler Reks

Tyler Reks was last seen on television at the Royal Rumble where he lasted under a minute. While I was not a fan of his “surfer dude” gimmick from ECW, I was a big fan of the take no prisoners monster that Reks debut as on Smackdown in October of 2010. He was put in a somewhat prominent position right away on Alberto Del Rio’s Survivor Series team and then moved into a feud with Chris Masters. As listeners to our show will know, I am a huge fan of midcard feuds and I was very much in favor of this move. Unfortunately, that feud has been it for Reks and he was moved to RAW in the supplemental draft and hasn’t been seen on that show. I see no reason to change the gimmick but I would do a series of vignettes to promote his debut as a big deal. I don’t think that Reks should be shot to the top but, at the very least, he should be placed into a mid card feud on RAW to get him reintroduced to the WWE audience.

4. Primo Colon

Primo has really been in limbo since the release of his brother Carlito in May of 2010. The brothers had just reunited and were being paid by Ted DiBiase as henchmen. Since then, he has remained a heel teaming briefly with Zack Ryder on Superstars which went as far as well…..teaming with Zack Ryder on Superstars. With that team dissolved, Primo was last seen losing to Sin Cara in his debut match. Primo is still under 30 and has been wrestling since 1999 for both his Father’s WWC and WWE. I would pair Primo up with a newcomer and have them form a tag team in order to give the rookie the experience of ring time and also from learning from a partner who was born into the business and has over 10 years experience. Brodus Clay might be a good person to have with Primo in order to make a nice big man/little man team.

Well there you have it. Just my two sense on guys not being used. I’ve just never understood having people under contract and not even trying to use them often, or in some cases at all! WCW was classic for this practice (Lanny Poffo was under contract for years and never used once).

Those are just four names that popped out to me. Agree? Did I miss someone? I’d love to hear from you at addie@wetalkwrestling.com
