Wrestling Makes Me Laugh When…

It should be no surprise to anyone who have ever listened to a We Talk Wrestling Podcast that I enjoy the lighter side of Sports Entertainment when it is done properly. In fact, when it is done right, I can put my favorite humorous moments in wrestling with those of any other genre. Vince McMahon and I have very divergent ideas of what is funny as fart jokes and “poopy” are a level of jokes that I find low rent and unimaginative. At least crack a mom joke for God’s sake. I consider 2012 another stagnant year for WWE and I was thinking that about TNA until they finally fired Russo and were able to get Impact on a roll. Now, hopefully, in TNA the days of blow up dolls in the ring will be gone forever. But this column isn’t about what not’s funny, but rather what current wrestlers and ideas in wrestling consistently make me giggle. » Read more..

Positive Things in Wrestling in 2012

I’ll admit it, it’s been a rough couple of months for wrestling. TNA is the better of the two companies right now, in my opinion, but even they appear to be in a slight holding pattern until they get closer to Bound For Glory. WWE seems like the puppy who lost its way right now and I don’t see any signs that it will turn around. Sure, they will get focused again in early January and stay that way until mid April but after that, I see the same old same old coming out of “The Fed”. I am, however, a positive guy. I’m always looking for a silver lining and, with that said, I’d like to share some things that I think are positives right now in the world of professional wrestling. » Read more..

Why Aces and Eights Is Working For TNA

When Sting was attacked on the June 14th episode of Impact I was slightly interested in who the men were that carried out the deed. It was when the gang beat up both Hulk Hogan and Sting on Impact that I really started to get into the angle. Each and every Thursday since then I have been thoroughly entertained by TNA in general but especially with Aces and Eights. The angle is really working and, in my opinion, here’s why: » Read more..

A Look At The Proposed Aces and Eights Members

As the weeks of television go by on Impact Wrestling, the biggest take away on each show is Aces and Eights. Who are these guys? What do they want? Why are they attacking these guys? As a hardcore wrestling fan (in my love for wrestling, not the extreme style) I am drawn to the wrestling news sites. A lot of people listen to our We Talk Wrestling podcast for Mo and my (especially my) take on the news. In the Wrestling Observer newsletter, Dave Meltzer gave the current planned names for the group. In conversing with quite a number of people on twitter (@wetalkwrestling) it became clear to me that not many people were firmilar with the proposed names for the group. In this column I’d like to break down the names and give a bit of background into each wrestler for those people who are unfirmiliar with each man. » Read more..

Who Should Make Up Aces and Eights?

Over the last few months TNA Impact has been markedly better. The segments have usually all had a purpose to further angles and, more importantly, the angles have been paced SLOWWER so that people can invest in seeing the payoff. One of my favorite angles that has recently started has been with the Aces and Eights faction.

It began with an attack on Sting and then Hogan. It should be noted that, as mentioned, these two attacks happened a month apart. On the July 19th Impact, Aces and Eights were all over the show. They attacked Kurt Angle, the gutcheck contestant, and the show ended with a duel beatdown on Austin Aries and Robert Roode (or Rooo for you Botchamania fans).  Despite all of this Television time no one is really sure who is in this group of masked men and, for that matter, how many people are in the group. » Read more..
