Bigger Douche – Hulk Hogan vs Shawn Michaels

It’s been a while since we’ve had one of our comparison columns where we look at promos, workrate, or in this case douchi-ness. It’s topical given the release of RAW’s biggest writing douche, Brian Gewertz, and hell I’m in a bad mood anyway so why not look at who the bigger prick has been in their career. This edition looks at Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels. I just finished watching their Summerslam match on YouTube and started to make these comparisons. There are plenty of stories on each man so let’s go have a look!

The Best Wrestlers To Never Be World Champion

I was recently watching some wrestling from the past online (any listeners to our podcast will be shocked!) and Jim Ross put over that fact that, at the time, Rob Van Dam was the best wrestler to never have won the world title. As well all know, Rob would win the title at the second ECW one night stand by honorably declaring when he was cashing in the Money In The Bank briefcase against John Cena. This fact seems to have been forgotten about when the talk was John Cena was the first to give a cash in date against CM Punk at RAW 1000. RVD’s reign would be a short one, due tot he fact that he like to drive with his shirt off (amongst other things).

The point of this is that the statement Jim Ross made really got me thinking as to who really were the best wrestlers to never win the Heavyweight title. In today’s day and age the title is passed around to seemingly every guy getting a main event push in the company. “Back in the day”, when the Heavyweight champions had reigns that lasted for years or the men chosen for the title were limited to a select few, there were definitely many top notch wrestling talents that did not get a run with THE belt. So, as I got to thinking about it, here are some of the guys that could have had a chance as Heavyweight Champion and not dropped the ball, in my opinion. » Read more..

My RAW 1000 Wish List

We are on the eve of the most promoted Monday Night RAW show that WWE has done in a long time, RAW 1000. RAW has been filled with good moments (Canada vs USA in 1997) and some horrible moments (Katie Vick) over the years but, despite it all, lasting 1000 episodes is a milestone that WWE should absolutely be commended for reaching. I have seen all over the Internet a variety of people’s favorite WWE RAW memories, so I’m not going to dog-pile on those articles. What I would like to do is give some superstars from the past that I would like to see return at RAW 1000. Some will be possible while others will admittedly be a pipe dream. So with that said, here is who I would LIKE to see at RAW 1000. » Read more..

Comparing WWE 2012 to WWF 1995

Recently on our We Talk Wrestling podcast I compared TNA Impact of 2012 to the early days of WCW Monday Nitro. I did this to point out that, while there were no breakout angles, Nitro felt like a fresh alternative show to the stagnant Monday Night RAW. Fast forward 17 years later and Impact is now the fresh show while RAW is once again suffering from a lack of exciting angles and programming. That got me to thinking: What was worse, WWF in 1995 or WWE today? With that question bouncing around my brain, I decided to look at a variety of factors in coming to my conclusion.

The Champions

For the purposes of this I am going to look at just the WWF champions from 1995 and both the WWE and World Heavyweight Champions of 2012. Back in 1995 the WWF was running on Diesel Power and the engine was seizing. Until JBL came along in 2004, Big Daddy Cool had the distinction of being the worst drawing Champion on company history. While his matches with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were good, his clashes with Sid, Mabel, and Davey Boy Smith left something to be desired. Nash would lose the WWF title to Bret Hart at the Survivor Series in November and Bret would have an excellent title defense against the British Bulldog in December to close out the year.

We Talk Wrestling July 01, 2012: You Want Promos, We Got Promos

(Explicit Content) Addie and Mo are here once again with a special episode of We Talk Wrestling talking about and playing the clips of some of their favorite wrestling interviews ever.

What all do they play and talk about? How about CM Punk’s earthshaking RAW shoot promo. Sgt Slaughter saying the Pledge of Allegiance to The Iron Sheik. Dusty Rhodes talks about hard times, and Archie “The Stomper” Gouldie bears his heart to you in response to Bad News Allen’s attack on his son just to start.

Also Randy Savage, Jake Roberts, Kurt Angle, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, Joey Styles, DDP, Bret Hart, Roddy Piper and the greatness of Owen Hart. This show was a lot of work to put together but worth it for the fun of listening back to almost 2 1/2 hours of some of the greatest talkers in some of their greatest moments that you remember and some you don’t, so be sure to listen for the most fun you may have all year and hit the share buttons to spread the word.

A Look Back At In Your House Canadian Stampede

It’s hard to believe but this week, July 6th more specifically, marks the 14th anniversary of WWF’s (yes that’s not a typo) In Your House: Canadian Stampede Pay Per View. This show is still considered one of the best top to bottom cards that the WWF/E has ever put on. In fact it was the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s 1997 Major Show of the Year. For those that don’t know, I have lived in Calgary for the past 25 years (come to think of it…even if you do know I still live here) and was in attendance for this event.

Rather than going through each match in detail, (if you wanted that you could just read a recap) I thought I would talk about my thoughts on not only the matches, but the various events in the city where the wrestlers were involved.

The WWF had a huge presence in the city that week as they had guys all over the radio and television. I remember a radio contest where someone could win a BBQ with Goldust and Mankind and all the members of the Hart Foundation did television interviews all week. The “Canadian Stampede” occurred during the Calgary Stampede, our annual 10 day rodeo, exhibition and festival held every July and there is a parade every year to kick off the event. The WWF had a float in the parade with all the Hart Foundation and a lot of the Hart family, such as Stu and Diana. The Stampede started on July 4th that year and Dok Hendrix (aka Michael PS Hayes) and Bret Hart were a part of the rodeo intermission on the Friday and Saturday shows. » Read more..
