Cruising For A Return: A Look At The Current WWE Cruiserweights

It’s sometimes hard to believe that it’s been almost 5 years since the WWE scrapped the Cruiserweight title in disgrace. Yes, sadly, the championship that was held by such names as Brian Pillman, Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, and Dean Malenko went out with a wimper as Hornswoggle was the final champion. With the fictional network on the horizon and Monday Night RAW’s move to three hours, talk has surfaced regarding bringing the Cruiserweight title back.

WWE is badly in need of solid undercard matches. The tag team division has a chance to shine occasionally but not consistently. Wrestlers like Ryback and Brodus Clay just aren’t cutting the mustard and don’t go in the ring any longer than 5 minutes. What the company needs are 15-20 minute matches full of the spectacular moves and high flying that only the lighter weight guys can consistently bring. I looked at the WWE roster page and was surprised by the number of wrestlers on the roster who are 215 pounds and under. It’s a great range of wrestlers who vary from jobbers to upper card talents. With that said, here is a look at the current roster of WWE Cruiserweights. » Read more..

NXT Report for July 12, 2012

Hey Yo! I am off work this week and we are lucky enough to get the new NXT from Full Sail University here in Canada on The Score so I thought I would do a recap for the site! I’m not sure how regularly I will be able to do this but here it is all the same.

We kick off this week’s NXT, after the opening credits,  as Bryron Saxton welcome us to the show. He is joined by William Regal and they plug the main event of The Usos vs The Prime Time Players (or The Main Event Players as Regal calls them) as Tyson Kidd comes out for the opening match.

Match 1: Tyson Kidd vs Camacho

Regal tells us that the back story of Hunico and Camacho is that they are lifelong friends that met in a fight. Camacho dragged 6 guys off Hunico and ripped out their eyes and they have been friends ever since. Some flips and a dropkick by Kidd opens the match as Regal puts over Bret Hart as well as Lance Storm’s school. Kick to the gut by Camacho regains control of the match. Backdrop countered into an attempt for the dungeon lock for Kidd to no avail. Arm bar by Kidd leads to Camacho backing Kidd into the corner and beating him before throwing him over the top rope. Kidd skins the cat into a leg scissors which puts Camacho over the top rope to the outside. Kidd looks to be going for a dive but Hunico and Camacho move so Kidd slides to the outside and stars at the two, one on either side, before sliding back into the ring.  Hunico is kicked out of ringside for no reason and Kidd uses that distraction to go over the top with a somersault plancha to the “Mexicans” as we go to our first commercial break.

Is there hope for Wrestling? (Flashback to February 2007)

I just found this blog from 2007 that I wrote on Myspace (remember that thing?). I thought I would put it up and reflect on how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Here it is:

So I just finished watching the first period of the Calgary Flames vs Detroit Red Wings game and the Flames are getting crushed 3-0. Not much incentive to continue to watch that, which brings me to my main topic: What is my incentive to watch proffessional wrestling, or as the two Vinces with a pen call it Sports Entertainment. To me, the stories are moving along way too fast and the ones that are sticking around don’t revolve around wrestling. The current example of this is Vince vs Trump. They are not wrestling so what’s the point. It’s not entertaining to anyone other than the McMahons and MAYBE Trump himself. » Read more..

Four Guys You Might Not Know WWE Have in 2012

About this time last year I took a look at the Superstars roster page on WWE.com and was amazed by how many people that I saw whom I had no idea were still employed. Well, it’s one year later and so I thought I would try this again. To the WWE’s credit, I found myself saying “Oh Yeah….HIM ” a lot less than last year. I would also like to make the distinction between guys that are under utilized (that discussion can be found on the June 4th edition of We Talk Wrestling HERE) and guys that are just not used. I know the list of guys not used to their full potential is long but for the purposes of this article, I will be looking just at people I totally forgot about.

1. Johnny CurtisChips Don't Go On Shoulders

The winner of NXT Season 4 disappeared from the WWE scene immediately after winning the “contest” and getting a WWE contract. He eventually appeared on Smackdown in June of 2011 with a series of “comedy” vignettes. The basic concept would be taking common phrases and making them literal, such as taking a cat out of a bag or putting a potato chip on his shoulder.  This led to a match in August where he lost to Mark Henry and, once again, disappeared. » Read more..
